People Advisor

Seeking an experienced People Advisor to join our rapidly growing team. This brand new generalist role will sit at the heart of our business, offering advise and support, and delivering key projects.

Headed up by Emily Brooke, the British inventor and entrepreneur known for developing the Beryl (formerly Blaze) Laserlights used for Santander Cycles, our Head Office space is based in Bethnal Green, and is the creative hub of the Brand. It is here that critical product design decisions are made, supported by a best in class Tech Dev Department.

Teams which support the infrastructure of the business also play a key role in our success,  from Operations, Finance and People, to Business Development, Sales and Marketing. Our network of bike workshops are strategically positioned to support our local markets, all underpinned by a dedicated customer service team...

THE ROLE:

This role sits at the heart of our business. We are looking for an ambassador for the People Team to support our core values. Someone with passion, energy, and a can-do attitude. Someone we can all rely on.

The right candidate will have the opportunity to work with the People Director to help shape and build the People Team. You will take ownership on key projects that will support the business and its rapid expansion, whilst supporting our staff in a busy, buzzing head office.

Not only that, but this person will also be responsible for promoting our culture to support our employer brand externally. It’s about ideas, enthusiasm and creativity on top of prompt and high quality administrative prowess.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Recruitment

  • Advising and supporting managers on appropriate recruitment and selection strategies, thinking creatively and commercially on how to directly attract the best candidates to the brand. 
  • Supporting Hiring Managers in reviewing and updating job descriptions
  • Management and development of recruitment campaigns using a variety of methods such as Linkedin /  jobs fairs / graduate fairs etc. 
  • Management of the TeamTailor ATS system.
  • Coordinating and negotiating (as appropriate) the appointment process for successful applicants
  • Prepare and process all offers and contracts.
  • Monitoring key recruitment metrics, such as turnover and retention rates

Employee Relations 

  • With the support of the People Director:
    • Act as the first point of contact for all HR queries from Head Office and our Regional Offices – offering guidance to employees in relation to company policy, contractual queries and employment law, as well as any other ad hoc queries that may arise.
    • Advise managers on ER Cases such as disciplinaries, grievances and absences, guiding on best practise, policy and legal requirements.
    • Support as required in any face to face ER meetings, including but not limited to notetaking, script writing or acting as a point of reference during an adjournment.
  • Track and report on all HR related issues. 

 Supporting the Employee Lifecycle 

  • Guide Managers through the employee lifecycle (recruitment, onboarding, succession planning, development)
  • Prepare and process all employment related changes, including contract amendments and promotions, annual salary increases, bonus payments and leavers. 
  • Responsible for the family policies, actioning with payroll and ensuring they have a point of contact.
  • With the support of the People Director, manage any flexible working requests.  
  • Assist and deliver where appropriate training workshops on key HR processes, and offer refreshers to new managers.
  • Benefit administration to support any new starters, leavers or changes ensuring 100% accuracy.
  • As appropriate, conduct Exit Interviews across the business, and analyse and suggest actions from the responses.

Payroll and Reporting

  • Provide support to Managers and Employees with any payroll related queries.
  • To assist our Payroll Bureau (as required) in the set-up of new starters, processing any changes and processing leavers.
  • To manage and process any statutory leaves, including but not limited to sick leave, maternity, paternity, shared parental and adoption leaves.
  • Manage the setup of new starters on CharlieHR, including the collection of new starter information, signed contracts, right to work documentation, and ensuring they are saved in their staff files.
  • Produce turnover reports.

General Duties 

  • Offer comprehensive HR administration support, such as dealing with references quickly and efficiently, and ensuring employee records are maintained and kept up to date.
  • Keep up to date with any changes in employment law
  • Any other ad-hoc duties or projects which may arise from time to time.
  • Contribute to the success of the company through ideas and initiatives
  • Ensure the company values are intrinsic in every part of your role.


DESIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

  • Proven experience in an HR administrative role supporting a busy team and exceeding expectations.
  • Experience of providing first line employee relations advice
  • Discreet, professional and well presented, with excellent communication skills and a keen sense of self in both 1:1 and group situations
  • Articulate with excellent writing skills and attention to detail.
  • Exceptionally well organised and efficient, with a good dose of common sense.
  • Ability to use judgement and seek guidance with confidential issues.
  • Great sense of humour, resilience, empathy and a hard work ethic  - and most importantly a love for all things Beryl!
  • Service driven with proven ability to work to stringent deadlines
  • Pro-active and able to show initiative/ideas to constantly improve the People service to the business
